Until now, I've asked you to subtract things from your to-do list in order to make space. That involves saying no a lot. Certainly, it can feel very brave to say no when everyone else expects you to say yes. But it can also feel very brave to say yes when every part of you wants to say no.
What does it feel like when you really want to do something but fear is holding you back?
Maybe
Your experience tachycardia
Your face turns red
Your stomach churns
You break into a cold sweat
You feel as if the floor has dropped out from under you
I'm not going to tell you to ignore those signs. In fact, I want you to pay attention. You're not in danger, but you're likely facing a very real fear. Pay attention and reflect. Is this an opportunity to practice vulnerability? Would this be an example of "yes" being the braver path to take?
I am afraid of public speaking. I really hate it. I would rather do almost anything than speak publicly. But there is a strategy I use that helps me get on stage. If I can honestly say "this opportunity will either be completely amazing and I'll share incredible value with the audience and make their lives better OR I might crash and burn on that stage"
I. Say. Yes.
This is vulnerability in action.
